For my husband...and all families who band together to combat lung cancer!
Update: My beloved husband lost his long battle with lung cancer on May 9, 2018. This Foundation was incredibly important to him during his fight - he felt understood, supported, and not alone. A few months ago, Mike and I decided together that we would raise money through the NYC Marathon. He was excited about coming to New York with me in November and cheering me on. Although it now seems impossible to even think about running this race without him, I will press on and honor our decision and commitment.
Thank you for supporting the important work of this Foundation.
Original message: The moments we all take for granted - riding your bike around the block, chasing your kids around the yard, enjoying the sunset on the beach - have now become impossible for my husband, Michael. He has bravely fought lung cancer for the past five years through countless surgeries, rounds of radiation, chemotherapy and drug trials as well as trips around the country to see various specialists.
Today, he is on oxygen around-the-clock and enduring multiple rounds of chemotherapy as we work to find a drug that will combat his disease. He is the strongest, kindest, most optimistic person I know, even in the face of great uncertainty...which is why I fell in love with him in the first place :)
We are indebted to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation for not only working to eradicate this disease and the stigma that lung cancer is a "smokers' disease" but also changing the conversation about how to manage it as a potentially chronic condition and live life to the fullest.
From our "Core4" family to yours - Mike, Tasman (age 10), Kepler (age 9) and I are eternally grateful for any financial support you can provide to this special foundation. Together we can make a difference for the future.
I look forward to running the streets of New York during this amazing marathon on November 4, 2018 in support of all who fight and thrive with lung cancer!
In gratitude,
Julie
