My mom, Mickie Jones, passed away on the 8th of June 2019. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer in December 2018. The disease was aggressive and relentless. It was devastating and heartbreaking to see her suffer in the way that she did. I am still reeling from her illness and passing. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about her, cry, wish for more time, better outcomes, dwell in regrets, and bask in the good memories. I am still processing all of my feelings, and there are many times that I have found everything just overwhelming and hard. The one thing that has helped get me through the past couple of months is running. It is what I turn to clear my head, sort through feelings, plan, vent, tune out, etc…
I am running the NY Half Marathon on 15th March. I am raising money for a very important charity and in honor of my mom.
The GO2 Foundation is a charity that was formed out of two of the most effective and influential nonprofit organizations serving the lung cancer community, the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) and Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA).
After my mom was diagnosed, I reached out to Lung Cancer Alliance for support and information. They were very helpful, caring, and encouraging. They provided us with information, a phone buddy for my mom, and hope. They had information about clinical trials taking place all over the country, support groups, financial help, treatment options and advice. They were very knowledgeable, patient, and understanding. Following the half-marathon, I plan to work with the GO2 Foundation to spread information about the organization and Lung Cancer – especially it impact on women and African-Americans, as well providing information about early detection and prevention.
Please help me support GO2 Foundation For Lung Cancer by making a contribution and sharing this page with your family and friends.
I want to try and save at least one life and spread the word about Lung Cancer, early detection, and eliminate the stigma that those afflicted with the disease sometime feel when diagnosed.
I am happy to provide more information about GO2 and the wonderful work that they do, as well as share my journey with you.
Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!
AND, if you are around on the 15th, please come down to cheer me on.
