My beloved mother passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020. It's because of cutting-edge ALK+ lung cancer research that we were able to have her as long after her diagnosis as we did.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to fund continued research against this awful, deadly disease.
Last year's (2019) Campaign Message:
As you probably know, my mom, Margaret Knoll (nicknamed "Toto"), is far and away my favorite person in the world. She was diagnosed with metastatic adenocarcinoma non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with an anaplastic lymphoma kinase positive (ALK+) biomarker.
Luckily, that means there are specialized treatments for her type of cancer. Unfortunately, it's very rare (less than 4% of lung cancer cases), so research funding is woefully insufficient. This type of cancer is especially awful in that it targets a younger population (many times childbearing age!) and for some reason, it appears to affect mostly women.
Making a tax-deductible donation today will help further research to FIND A CURE and help keep my mama around! <3 There are also some benefactors who are matching donations this month (November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month), so any donation you make will go even further to find a cure, making ALK+ NSCLC a chronic disease, rather than a terminal one!
