Team Scifiknitter is raising money for Lung Cancer Research!

Anita Figueras

Anita Figueras

Thank you for visiting. I am a co-founder of The EGFR Resisters Group, a patient-driven group that is working to accelerate research into EGFR-mutated lung cancer and improve outcomes for patients. I am very proud of what we have accomplished in a short time. To learn more, please visit our website at egfrcancer.org.

My story is an example of how much research has changed treatment for patients diagnosed with EGFR-mutated lung cancer - and how far we still have to go. I have lived with stage 4 cancer since June 2014, and treatments that have extended my live didn't even exist when I was diagnosed. The options for my future treatment are getting thin now, however, due to resistance mutations that have developed from those miraculous drugs that have kept me alive.

All money raised through this fundraiser will be used to help fund research projects selected by the EGFR Resisters Group. Our first project has been approved and is open for enrollment. It will create new and better models of resistant EGFR+ lung cancer that will be invaluable to researchers working to develop new treatments and treatment combinations. You can learn more about this project here: https://www.lungcancerfoundation.org/media/press-releases/patients-launch-egfr-study/

Together we can make a difference! Your support will be greatly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Anita

Anita’s work as an advocate for lung cancer research is just one example of the myriad of ways she gave back to her community. She even has a community kitchen named after her. She was a unique and special soul and is very missed up here in the North Country.
