Pamela Klein's ROS1 Research Fundraiser

With limited treatment options for ROS1 patients (of 9 types of cancer type), research is necessary to fight the disease. Donations are welcome anytime.

Every day people like me are diagnosed with incurable lung cancer. I am a never-smoker who's been physical active and mindful of healthy choices and environmental risks. With no apparent risk factors, I tested positive for the ROS1 cancer mutation at age 45. I've now learned that anyone with lungs can receive this diagnosis. Luckily, the ROS1 mutation can often be controlled with targeted therapy, an oral medicine that allows cancer patients to live normalized lives; not normal, but a workable option. However, there are limited targeted therapies available for the ROS1 mutation. To compound that, after a few years or as soon as a few months, the ROS1 rearrangement develops resistance to the medicine.

Together, the ROS1 patient group and the Bonnie Addario Lung Cancer Foundation have put a strategic plan into action to generate the research we need. Tissue samples are being donated by our ROS1 patients as they experience new cancer growth and resistance to their current medicine. The samples are used to create new cell lines and mice models for researchers to develop new treatments. This current research needs funding now!

So far the ROS1ders have raised $303,000 towards the $500,000 that we have committed towards this project. Administration costs are paid by the ALCF general fund, so 100% of your donation is used towards finding more treatments for ROS1 cancer. I have committed to raise $5,000 in 2019. Any amount that you feel comfortable donating is very much appreciated.

Thank you for your support! - Pamela
